Simple Stories: Summer Fresh Layout

Simple Stories has this fabulous, fun & perfect for summer collection called "Summer Fresh" and I am absolutely in loooooove with it =). Below I have a double pager using this collection that I made for Cord Scrapbook Studio

I have always been a very outdoorsy kinda girl, I love to be out in the summer sun, walking around, hiking, biking, exploring new places and climbing on things! And lucky for me, I live in a wonderful state that has plenty to explore =) I live not to far away from the Hocking Hills region where there are a really good amount of walking path/trails to explore (along with canoeing, lakes, zip lines, horse back riding, ect, ect, I love it!) Baz and I try to pick out a new place each time we go and on this day we went with Conkles Hallow. We got out our gps and plugged in our destination, oddly enough it took us a back way, I knew there was a more main road to get there judging by which way the signs said to go but we decided to go with the gps and check out the back roads. I am glad we did, there was this one road we were on taking us far up in the hills, it was all gravel and supposed to be a road that had traffic going both ways but was really only big enough for one car, it was a beautiful drive. There were locals out walking around and they waved to us as we drove by, one of the reasons I love small city back roads. Once we arrived to Conkles Hallow we looked at the trails and decided to just do the short lower rim trail since it was late in the day. The lower rim trail was one of the most paved out paths that I have been on there, it was a nice short walk to the small water fall, we climbed some rocks, relaxed and then decided to head back home. I liked Conkles Hallow a lot and we decided on our next trip we need to go back there earlier in the day and tackle the upper rim trail.

Below is a list of the best school supply discounts for this week, and there are definitely some good ones! As a lot of us know, teachers end up spending much of their own money on supplies for the class room, so for those of us that can, lets help them out while getting these supplies at very minimal cost =)

Deals On School Supplies: 7/15-7/21

This is a post in a different direction than I usually take considering it is not a scrapbooking/craft project, however lots of crafters are mothers with school age children so I will consider this relevant! I don't have any children myself, but most of you know my boyfriend is from The Gambia (West Africa) and all of his family still lives there. Each year we hunt for the best deals on school supplies, bulk up and ship what we have purchased over to his family. Two years ago we decided it would be a great idea to take that a step further and donate to several schools throughout many villages there, I talked with a Peace Corps member there and we made it happen with tons of help from people in our local area and scrapbook community! (We shipped 5 fifty five gallon containers helping 26 different schools)

This year we have the same goal in mind-- find great deals, purchase as much as we can and ship over everything donating all the extras to schools throughout The Gambia.

**If donating to this is something you are interested in there is a donation button on my right sidebar here where you can donate any amount from $1 or above.

We R Memory Keepers: On The Boardwalk Layout

Good Morning!
Wow, I have been very absent lately. July is proving to be a tough month for me to keep up on my blog posts, so many distractions from wind storms causing tons of us to be without power & damages to our homes to just wanting to relax in the extreme heat by the pool, but alas I am back with posts ;)

Below I have a layout that I made for Cord Scrapbook Studio's using We R Memory Keepers "On The Boardwalk" Collection.

Oh how I wish I could be back on the beaches in The Gambia, I miss it so much. On this day Baz and I took a break from spending the evening in his family's compound and decided to go to the beach to relax and go horseback riding. We walked along the coastline until we found a couple of guys with available horses, as we approached them they greeted us with British English accents (The Gambia has a ton of European tourists, predominately from The UK), "Ell-o, will you like a ride on the beach?" We tell them maybe, and ask how much (I let Baz do the talking to bargain and speak in the local language to get a fair price) They settle on a price equivalent to $4 and the guys switch back to their British English "Is that a fair price, princess?" These are the first actual words I have spoken to them "Yeah, that works." And that's when they realized that we are American, next thing out their mouths was "Yo, yo, yo, yo,yo, New YORK, what-up, yo, your American, maaan?" We were cracking up, it was too funny how quick they switched from their British English to their "American English", we talked & answered questions throughout our 30 minute ride, listened to their American English imitations and promised to give their regards to Barack Obama.

Material List:

*Bazzill Cardstock-(2) Vanilla
*Layered Chipboard

Monthly Sketch: July 2012

July already? I feel like every month has been seeking up on me!! Where is the time going? How can it be July already? Alas, it is and it is the first which means it is time for the Monthly Sketch! Woo-hoo!

This months sketch I was focusing on how to fit several photos on a page without compromising too much on the size of the photos and on design, I was able to fit 5 photos on a single page! Not too shabby.

Sybrina K has a wonderful take on this months sketch turning it from a layout into a card! Isn't it adorable?
Stop on over to her blog (click here) and check out her amazing cards!

**Special Side Note: This card is an OWH (Operation Write Home) Any Hero card being sent to a deployed troop member who does not receive mail from home.

About Sybrinas card:
To make the card, I worked with the center part of the sketch. The paper I used is We R Memory Keeper's 6 x 6 Red, White, & Blue collection.
  • I layered 3 pieces of paper for the background paper.
  • Next, I stamped, heat embossed, cut out, and embellished two firecrackers for the 4 X 3 photos. The stamp is from a Making Memories set purchased at a garage sale!
  • Then, I cut out and matted text and an image from one of the papers in the pad for the 4 x 6 photo. I also cut out part of a pennant from one of the other papers for the circle and feathery plume above one of the 4 x 3 photos.
  • I cut a border, cutting along the arc-ed edge, for the borders separating the middle and bottom parts of the sketch.
  • For two last steps, I adhered elements (the left firecracker, the round image on the far right, and the bottom border) with pop up glue dots and added crystal Stickles (to the firecracker bursts, the stars in the pennant, the stars and firecrackers in the circular element, and the stars in the center strip of the border) for a little shimmer.
